Our History

Thank you for your interest in supporting the ministry of Camp Shalom.  We hope the information provided on these pages will be helpful as you prayerfully consider a gift to our ministry.

Manna Fund–Annual Fund

The annual giving program at Camp Shalom is called the “Manna Fund” because these gifts sustain our ministry much like God sustained the people of Israel in the wilderness with manna.

Manna Fund gifts keep camper fees affordable, maintain and grow our facilities, and help develop new programs.  Your partnership in ministry helps strengthen our ability to provide a quality “shalom” experience to over 1,200 children and families each year.

Camperships

Children in need of financial aid to attend Camp Shalom are not necessarily scholars, but they are campers.  So we call our fee support program, Camperships.

The board of directors remains committed to providing financial support to each child who desires a “Shalom" experience. This summer 101 children received financial support to help pay for their participation in the Camp Shalom program. Each child must pay something for a week of camp. Parents submit Campership applications describing the need and how much the family can contribute. Camp Shalom has been challenged to raise $22,000 annually to cover all Campership requests.

Endowment

Donate

The endowment fund shall provide an additional source of income to extend and perpetuate the ministry of Camp Shalom enabling us to continue to care for the needs of God’s creation and proclaim the Gospel to future generations.

The Seeds of Faith Society is an honorary society established to recognize individuals who desire to help build the Camp Shalom Endowment Fund.  Gifts to the society include cash, stock gifts or gifts that are made through estate and financial planning vehicles.  Planned gifts include: bequests, beneficiary designations (insurance policy or living trust) or a life income gift (annuities, charitable remainder trusts, etc.)

Matching Gifts

Many companies offer matching gift programs to their employees who make charitable contributions.  These matches help extend the impact of individual gifts, please investigate this option at your place of work.  The human resources or employee benefits office should know if your company will match gifts.

Birdies for Charity
Birdies for Charity is a program run through the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament and PGA.  John Deere will make an additional contribution to each pledge made to Camp Shalom through the JD Classic – Birdies for Charity program.  Historically, the Birdies for Charity program adds 10% on to any gift.  If you make a $500 gift to Camp Shalom through the BFC program, camp receives $550.

Thrivent GivingPlus Program.
Camp Shalom is an eligible organization for matching gifts through Thrivent Financial Services for Lutherans’ GivingPlus program.  Through GivingPlus, Thrivent will match $1 for every $2 contributed for any amount up to $600.  If you own Thrivent Mutual Funds and/or Thrivent Life Insurance Company products your gifts to Camp Shalom can be matched.
