Family Camp is one of the hidden treasures of Camp
Shalom. It provides families an amazing opportunity to play,
rest, learn and grow together. Discover the joy of spending a
weekend together in a time and place apart.
Schedule
Families arrive for dinner on Friday evening and stay through worship
on Sunday morning. Delicious meals are prepared and served by our
cooks in the Program Center. Saturday evening is a cookout in the
Outpost Pavilion. Following the evening campfires staff helps put
younger children to bed while adults and older children enjoy social
time.
Activities
Led by the Camp Shalom staff, families are invited to help plan
campfire services, toast marshmallows for s’mores, and play
family games. On Saturday, staff lead children in games while the
adults meet for Bible Study and discussion. The afternoon is
spent canoeing on the Maquoketa River, shooting arrows at the archery
range and making crafts. We also take a staff-led trip to the
Maquoketa Caves and offer Challenge Course activities. Families go
swimming at the Maquoketa pool following supper on Saturday.
Housing
This program offers several options for housing. The Charis House offers high comfort accommodations for those not excited about roughing it. The Village cabins provide a warm camp-type experience and the Outpost cabins are for those looking for an adventure.
Families come in all shapes and sizes and all are
welcomed to join us. So come and join us for a family-focused
weekend under the peaceful Shalom sky.
