Winter camps are intended to provide parents a
creative alternative for their children when school is not in session. Summer
staff will serve as counselors and campers stay in the Charis House. We will
have your favorite camp activities- campfires, games, Bible Study, skits, songs
and swimming at the YMCA pool. Each retreat is filled with fun and surprises.
If we have snow, campers will also go sledding. Register online
or call the camp office at 563-323-2790.

Ready to Live, Ready
to Give
Summer 2009- Bible Study
“As for those who in the present
age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the
uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything
for our enjoyment. They are to do good,
to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus storing up for
themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may
take hold of the life that really is life.”
1
Timothy 6: 17 – 19
Paul’s words in 1st Timothy
provide a helpful reminder for those of us living today, “command them (the
rich) not to…set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches.” One does not need to be religious to
understand the “uncertainty of riches.” The current state of the economy reveals how
fragile wealth can be.
Many economic experts site the cause
for our current situation to be grounded in the average American family living,
or attempting to live, beyond their means.
Despite a strong economy, many families find themselves in debt. This would seem to suggest that wealth alone
has not produced the kind of life that brings joy.
The focus of this summer’s theme,
“Ready to Live, Ready to Give,” is teach campers how to be good stewards of all
the blessings God has placed in our care – the world, ourselves, food,
possessions and time. To be ready to
live is, “to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share.” For it is in giving that we take hold of the
life that is really life.
Work Weekend - April 2010
A great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of
the woods while helping camp prepare for the summer. Volunteers
do general maintenance and building projects led by the Operations
Committee and Dwayne Heinrich, maintenance director. Work on
Friday, Saturday, or both days. Breakfast and lunch are provided
and work is done by 3:00 pm. There is a job for every level of
talent. Contact the office if you are interested in helping at office@campshalomia.org.
Can't Make Work Weekend?
Sometimes people would like to help with work at camp, but cannot make
a work weekend. There is always a project to do at camp and always a
day available to do it. This provides a nice option for people looking
for a quiet day of work in the woods. All meals, and special snacks,
will be provided. Contact Dwayne Heinrich at dwayne@campshalomia.org.
