Build Community Through Christ-Centered Camp Experiences
Where purposeful faith develops alongside lasting friendships in Maquoketa
Camp Shalom Christian Camp has served young people in Maquoketa since 1976, providing a space for spiritual growth for campers from second grade through senior year. This ecumenical ministry invites youth and families from various communities to engage in outdoor adventures and faith formation. Registration for summer camp is open, featuring week-long sessions that help participants connect with nature, build relationships, and encounter God's presence.
Each day at camp is intentionally structured, combining activities like archery, crafts, hikes, and worship with Bible study and reflection. Campers can enjoy canoeing, swimming, and ropes courses in a setting that fosters confidence and personal growth. They can anticipate a full week of inspiring experiences and opportunities for friendship.
Camp Shalom's mission focuses on nurturing spiritual formation and guiding young people toward purposeful faith. The camp’s name, chosen by a young camper, reflects the Hebrew word for peace, which shapes its values. Every moment is crafted to strengthen connections with God and others in an atmosphere of care

Nurture Spiritual Formation in a Natural Setting
Camp Shalom offers a peaceful space where young people connect with God and each other.

What Happens During a Week at Camp
At camp, you'll find a balance of activity and reflection, adventure and worship, and individual growth with community building. Each session provides structure while allowing for spontaneity and personal discovery. Campers know daily routines, from morning gatherings to evening campfires, which fosters security and participation.
The staff coordinates a smooth flow of activities, giving campers opportunities to try new things like the ropes course or group worship. This blend of outdoor challenges and faith-based conversations encourages questions, story-sharing, and support.
A typical week at Camp Shalom includes:
- Daily worship and Bible study for faith exploration in a welcoming space
- Outdoor adventures like canoeing, archery, and swimming that promote confidence and teamwork
- Cabin time and campfires that encourage friendships and belonging
- Activities in the natural beauty of Maquoketa, showcasing God's creation
Contact Camp Shalom in Maquoketa to register for summer camp or learn how your group can participate.
Stories from the Camp Shalom Community
Our kids attended Camp Shalom, first as part of family camp and then on their own from elementary school into high school. While growing in their faith, they had all kinds of fun, made great friends and experienced individual growth. It’s a beautiful place all around!
Rebecca Schmidt
A week at Camp Shalom has been one of my children's favorite summer activities. They have fond memories of cooking breakfasts in Outpost, worship, creek stomping and various traditional camp games. Our family highly recommends this experience!
Karen Moldt
This place has changed my life, both as a camper and a staff member. I consider it my second home and have always felt so safe and connected to God and others when I am at camp! I am forever thankful for the memories, friendships, and faith that I have found at Camp Shalom.
