Executive Director Noah Scantland
Originally from Tennessee, Noah has spent his life shaped by summer camp, serving in a variety of roles as both a camper and leader. Though new to Camp Shalom, he carries a strong belief that camp has the power to shape faith, character, and lifelong memories.
Noah is committed to shepherding Camp Shalom with intentionality, hospitality, and care. He loves the Lord, spending time with family, enjoys climbing and camping in God’s creation, and is passionate about investing in the next generation—believing every child deserves the opportunity to experience the life-changing gift of camp.

Facility Director Dwayne Heinrich
For over 20 years, Dwayne has helped Camp Shalom stay rooted in the beauty of God's creation as our Facilities Director. He cares deeply for the land and ensures that the camp remains a place where people can experience peace, wonder, and the outdoors.

Program Director Natalie Scheers
While growing up in St. Louis, Natalie would venture to Camp Shalom each summer! Throughout her time, she served many summers on the ropes team, as a counselor, and as Mini Coordinator. Now as the Program Director, she is thrilled to spend her days serving Camp Shalom's mission and spreading joy!

Location
Camp Shalom is nestled in the wooded, river-bluff acres along the Maquoketa River, just outside Maquoketa in Jackson County. Camp Shalom is closely connected to the nearby town, yet far enough into nature that the bustle of everyday life falls away, giving campers a chance to unplug, explore, and connect with creation.

Our Story
In 1976, St. Paul Lutheran Church purchased land to create an outdoor ministry for its youth and transformed the farmland into a camp. A naming contest soon followed, and a young camper chose “Shalom,” the Hebrew word for “peace,” reflecting the camp’s mission.
In 1996, Camp Shalom became an independent ecumenical ministry, opening its doors to the wider community. Today, Camp Shalom continues to serve many communities, fostering spiritual growth and development for campers.
